Steve Dynie: The Coloulful Darkness of East Vancouver Opening Nov 24, 2008 "I live for animated photos that have a life of their own. I feel that east vancouver has always been saddled with a dark reputation, and having been a resident here for many years, I hope to show a side of this community in my work that reveals a vibrant, alive and colourful pulse that is found in few other places. To photograph my subjects, I began to wander into the darkest and shadiest areas of our community, knowing that in these areas, there always exists an abundance of opportunities that make for stunning photos. More often than not my subjects are those that have begun to decay and transform, moving on to another stage in their existence. But in this decay, I found that a new image materializes, filled with the elements of contrast and texture that I am always drawn back to." |
