First opened in 2001 by Rico Bondi and Beik Hosseini, the Libra Room started as a Panini Cafe with live music. Three years ago, an electrical fire closed down the cafe until February 2005.

They re-opened as a full service Restaurant Jazz Club and the success was immediate. The Libra Room became famous for its tasty food made from scratch, its astrological martinis and line-up of live music every night. Due to limited seating, not only was the room always full to the brim, customers who didn’t get through the doors early enough were often turned away, and could be seen hovering around the door, listening in on the sessions that were quickly turning the Libra Room into a serious and sought after music venue.

A year and a half ago, Rico and Beik announced that the Libra Room was doubling its size. They bought the bakery next door and started renovating, adding another 12 seats to the bar, and 40 seats to the dining room. In addition, a private VIP lounge, complete with fireplace and comfortable seating was separated off at the back of the new space, lending a cozy, intimate space to an otherwise energetic and bustling room. The Libra Room has continued to evolve into the most intimate and colourful jazz club in Vancouver.
